what would be a Bambara word to use in this context? Could we use ka faamuyali sɔrɔ a la ?

I think it’s useful to start with the canonical definition of “a lesson”. For me, it’s something like “a structured period of instruction”.
In your sentence and similar ones though (i.e., “I took lessons” [from the video]), the word “lesson” is being used in figurative sense. When you “take lessons from something” (like a video), you aren’t talking about formal instruction but rather the idea of an insight, a takeaway or a new form of understanding.
In this sense, I think that ka faamuyali sɔrɔ (Lit. “to obtain understanding”) works well.
Your original sentence seems to have a typo in it though. I would have said:
