N that terminates a word

Can you give an overview of the n that terminates a word? When I hear it spoken it is reduced to a barely audible sound. For this reason, I don’t know the best way to transliterate these words using the Latin alphabet. For example “numu” or “numun” for “blacksmith”.

I ni ce @Drew !

I have a video in my Letters and Sounds mini-series coming out about this soon, so maybe wait until that comes out in the next or so

As for knowing how to “transliterate”, I think that you simply mean how to “spell” words that you may or may not hear with word final nasalization. I would recommend using the AKT Dictionary or another one to look up the words and see if they are typically spelled with word-final nasalization or not.

For instance, here’s the entry for numu without “n” at the end!
