N tɔgɔ ko Caroline

Aw ni ce! N tɔgɔ ko Caroline! I am French́-German but live in the UK currently. I am PhD student at the Global Development Institute at the University of Manchester and study commodity dependence in West Africa and specifically the cacao sector in Côte d’Ivoire. Even though I don’t think I will need Dioula necesarily for my research I became interested in learning the language as a way to discover the region’s culture and traditons more profoundly!

Nba! I ni ce, @Caroline! I dansɛ Forum ni “Study Space” kɔnɔ

Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself and your research! I’ve lived in Germany and France, but never in the UK – I hope it’s treating you well!

I’d love to learn more about the Cacao sector someday. I’d in particular be interested to learn more about the seasonal workforce that handles the work in the fields. I imagine that there’s many Manding/Jula speakers! When I lived in Burkina, I met people that had gone on “adventure” (tunga; discussed in this video that I made) and worked in the cacao fields in Côte d’Ivoire before returning home.

Excited to see how the Beginner Bambara course (modestly) contributes to your research and investigations!
