Madjenin Fitini Concert in New York

I’m watching and getting a kick out of this video recording of live concert of Madjenin Fitini that uses a soundboard recording for the audio…

She enters the room around 32m in. Here’s the link.

What’s a soundboard recording? And what exactely do you get the kick out of? I understand that she is singing about Ameriki?

A soundboard recording means that the audio we here is from the concert hall’s soundboard and not the camera itself. This is why we hear her singing and not just everyone singing along or screaming :upside_down_face:

I got a kick out of the visuals! Her coming out and being welcome. People throwing US dollars upon people :dollar_banknote::cloud_with_rain:

Yeah, she sings a bunch about the West African diaspora in Ameriki – it’s like praise-singing or shout-outs, etc.

Ah that makes sense! Makes the video even weirder. People’s (Women’s) (including the singer’s) energy levels seem a bit out of tune with the occasion fir Western eyes I guess…? Why has the video the concert hall’s soundboard?

I didn’t make it to the travaillement section the first time :money_with_wings::sweat_smile: But why do they throw money at the other woman as well?

So all she is saying is how great the Ivoirian didpora in the US is?

Haha, yeah, most parts of the event seem odd from a Western perspective, I think!

Part of why the energy levels seem out of sync is because we aren’t hearing the crowd. Just the microphone and instruments via the soundboard. But it makes it easier to hear the music instead of the party

Similar money things (sometimes just giving instead of throwing) happen in a lot of cultural events.

As for what she is saying exactly about the Manding or West African diaspora, we’d have to dig into it in a class or lesson sometime
