It’s worth nothing that this word is an adjective that can mean “dry”, but also a view other things such as “diehard” or “died-in-the-wool”.

There is also a more transparent word for “died” which would be “jalen” (< ja-len “dry-ed”) or “janin” in Jula using the resultative participle marker.

Not sure why or how the first form ending with -lan came about!

Interesting. I probably meant ‘jalen.’ The context I always remember it from was the mother of my then boyfriend (they were Lagunais) muttering ‘muso jalen’ as we all sat together - probably hoping I might have picked up enough Dyula by then to catch her meaning. He was oblivious. I was sort of pleased that I understood.

Haha, in that context, “muso jalan” would me suggest something like “an incorrigible woman” or “set-in-their-ways / headstrong woman” :upside_down_face:
