I dansɛ, Piotr!

I ni ce, @Piotr_Kozlowski !

I ka kɛnɛ wa?

Welcome the Forum’s Study Space as a student with an Intermediate subscription after having completed the Beginner Bambara course

Why don’t you introduce yourself here (and practice a bit of Bambara)?

  • I tɔgɔ ko di?
  • I bɛ bɔ min?
  • I ka baara ye mun ye?

(PS - I know that you joined the Discord server too! For now, AKT has both the Discord server and this Forum; use whichever one you prefer. One day I might commit to one or the other!)

For other @students – aw tɛ Piotr fo?

Ɔwɔ, n bɛ taa Farafinna tuma dɔw la n ka baara kosɔn. Nka n taara Worodugu Afrika, Namibia ni Rwanda dɔrɔn fɔlɔ.

(not sure about the word order I wanted to say “But I’ve only been to South Africa, Namibia and Rwanda so far”; also I’m not sure about the position of tuma dɔw la in the sentence)

I ni ce n ka filiw latilen kama! (thanks for correcting my mistakes!)

Ala ka wula hɛɛrɛ caya! K’an bɛn!

O ka ɲi kosɛbɛ. Farafinna tilebinyanfan fɛ ka fisa

(Question which I hope isn’t misplaced: are you using GoogleTranslate or a similar tool for some of your sentences?)

Well spotted! I did use GT (especially yesterday, as Bamadaba dictionary wouldn’t open) but I do a lot of “reverse engineering” trying to only use sentences/phrases which I can a) parse and understand the structure of and b) confirm by google’ing that they actually occur.

I also tried to use it to dissect headlines (such as the latest news: “Niger” jamanadenw yɛrɛ hakilinan ye jumɛn ye u ni “Etats-Unis” ka sɔrasiyabɛnkan bɔrɔtɔli la?) but it’s not trustworthy for compound words (such as sɔrasiyabɛnkan) and/or morpheme analysis.

For the latter, your draft chapter on “Agentive Suffixes” is a great resource. I hope other types of suffixes will be covered in the future, too.

Thanks for confirming. Yeah, based off what I know of your level (recently finishing the Beginner Bambara course), I was a bit surprised to see some of the formulations that you put together. Some of the vocab and the slightly misused grammar tipped me off

I hope to have more Grammar chapters like the one on Agentive Suffixes in the months to come!

As for headlines, have you started the Kuma Bakolo series/workbook?

I ni tile & I ni ce,

I’m a bit quiet here, because I’m working through first lessons of Vydrin and compiling a vocab list to drill. I hope to have a solid grammar&vocab base by the end of April. I’m also watching (and re-watching) the videos, including Kuma Bakolo (I’ve already seen most of them except for the song lyrics).

Thanks again,

Piotr
