How to Adjust Notifications

Here’s some information about notifications that I have adapted from Discourse (the software that runs the Forum).

Notifications

When someone interacts with you directly, a blue number will appear over your profile picture. Like this:

direct interactions

For personal messages, a green envelope will appear instead:

personal messages

If you click on your profile picture, you will see a bunch of different icons that sort the notifications and others things by type. Like this:

The types are:

  • :bell: = All Notifications
  • :left_arrow: = Replies
  • = Likes
  • :envelope: = Personal Messages
  • :bookmark: = Bookmarks
  • :speech_balloon: = Chat Notifications
  • ⧉ = Other Notifications
  • :bust_in_silhouette: = Your Profile

Category Notifications

Set notification levels per category from the category page by clicking on the bell (:bell:) button next to the New Topic button.

It looks like this on a category page:

Once you click on the bell icon, you have a range of different options:

Topic Notifications

Change notification level for any topic via the notification control button which is a bell (:bell:). It appears at the bottom of a topic:

And it also appears to the right under the timeline of any topic:

Push Notifications

To receive desktop or Android push notifications, allow the site to send you notifications through your browser.

For iOS, it is tricker because Apple doesn’t properly support adding apps to the homescreen in a way that allows push notifications. You should install the Discourse Hub app and add this Forum directly to the app if you want push notifications on your iPhone or iPad.

For ios push notifications, after downloading the Discourse Hub app, in the search bar for a URL, enter https://ankataa.discourse.group/ and you will see a button to add it.

Then to turn on the notification settings, in the an ka taa forum website:
Click on your profile picture > in the right side nav bar click the profile icon > preferences > notifications
