Dugawu vs duga vs duba

This question recently was asked by a student studying Goodbyes & Benedictions:

I would just be interested to know if the difference in use between dugawu, duga, and duba is regional (since I am hoping to learn the specificities of Jula) or not.

Here’s my response:

In my experience, it’s not specifically regional or dialectal in a systematic way that lines up with “Bambara” or “Jula”. I’d recommend just going with dugawu and then adjusting based off what you hear around you if need be. Everyone will understand all of them in context. The word comes from Arabic, which means that some people adjust their pronunciation based off their knowledge of Arabic too if they happen to study or learn it.
