I’m not saying that it isn’t pronounced with u, but it could be two pronunciations of the same thing. Would be worth asking your interlocutor! And if you do, try to elicit a more descriptive example (e.g., “Swish the piece of clothing in the water” or something like that) so that others can see a good example of how to use the word?
