I think the term that you are referring to is bon (which is high tone).
This term can refer to both a sickness that is like a curse caste by ill-intended people or cancer.

You’re welcome! As for you alternative phrasing, it would be spelled jeli kɛnɛyabali, but the standard written form for ‘wound’ in Bambara is joli, so joli kɛnɛyabali would be what you are looking for.
