Baramɔgɔlafa

I came across a word for a novel word for a holiday or some sorts and I’m not sure which one it is. It’s in a Jula language recording from the 1960s where a man is talking about various holidays in Côte d’Ivoire.

Fɔlɔ mislimiw ta lonbaw dannin tun bɛ baramɔgɔlafa, sunkaloseli ani layaseli ye.

Is anyone familiar with this term and what it means? I have also asked on TikTok. Will update if I get a response.

I got no responses on TikTok, but a friend in Côte d’Ivoire has explained to me that it’s the term used for the Muslim holiday of “Mid-Sha’ban”, which is the literally the middle of the eighth Islamic month of “Sha’ban”.

According to him, it’s a moment of spiritual preparation (with prayer and fasting for some) on a date that varies depending on the community (some celebrate it in the middle of the month of “Sha’ban” [roughly two week before the beginning of Ramadan]) and others on the 27th day before the month of Ramadan.
